Southern Iceland

Our first destination in southern Iceland was the town of Vik. Jim and I were eager to see it as we had recently watched an Icelandic Netflix series that was set in Vik. We had a chance to walk out on the beach at Vik and get some pictures of the basalt columns just off the coastline.

Next on the agenda was the much-awaited Puffin viewing stop at Dyrholaey.  There were hundreds of Puffins on the top and side of the cliff with many soaring in the wind above. We were surprised how close we could get to them - they were probably 10 feet from us and weren't a bit concerned about all the tourists watching them.

We finished up our day with visits to two more impressive waterfalls. At the first one, Skogafoss, we climbed up the steps next to it to get a birds' eye view of the falls.

The second waterfall, Seljalandsfoss, has a path that allowed us to walk behind the waterfall which was fun to do!

We ended the day by checking into the Landhotel near the Golden Circle.
