Ventura, California

I recently decided that it would be a fun lifetime goal to attempt to travel to all 62 US National Parks. We went through the list of national parks and found that together we have traveled to 15 of them. Since Jim is on board with my cockamamie idea, we decided to take advantage of a 3 day weekend to hit park #16 - Channel Islands National Park. We arrived in Ventura around midday and got settled into our campsite at The Ventura Beach RV Park. Much to our surprise, the place was hopping with Halloween festivities and many RVs had gone all out in decorating their campsites.

Once unhitched from our trailer, we headed to the Channel Island National Park Visitor Center to learn a little about the islands. They had an informative video and interesting displays. Unfortunately the gift shop was closed so I couldn’t purchase a magnet for my NP magnet collection. Afterwards, we wandered along the beach and explored the Ventura Harbor Village with its shops and restaurants.

On our way to find a restaurant for dinner, we made a quick stop at The Serra Cross. The Serra Cross sits on a hill overlooking Ventura and is a great spot to view the setting sun. Our timing was perfect as the sun was just beginning to set when we got there.

After dinner, we headed back to the RV park. The streets of the RV Park were filled with trick-or-treaters, so we quickly put out a bowl of candy at our campsite and then set out to see all of the decorations throughout the park. It certainly was a fun and unexpected way to celebrate Halloween.
